Group Information

My name is Dan Turner.  I am 46 years old and was forced to retire from flight medicine with 13 1/2 years experience after a traumatic brain injury that I sustained on December 8, 2012.  A friend of mine and I were riding our Harleys on the Natchez Trace when a deer ran out in front of me.  After 3 weeks of being unconscious and on a ventilator in the ICU, I woke up and was found to have left-sided weakness with total loss of fine motor skills in my left hand.  I also had difficulty walking, requiring the use of a wheelchair.  My career as a flight nurse was over, but it was truly the greatest blessing and opportunity in my life while it lasted.

I actually released the second edition of a book about my experiences that you may purchase HERE Since my book is being sold through the smile.amazon program, 0.5% of royalties earned will be donated to the Tunnel to Towers charity.

I flew as a flight nurse for the University of Mississippi Medical Center’s AirCare program, which is an IFR program.  As a part of my team’s serving as a community resource, I loved to teach and see close-knit relationships develop. Teaching was my favorite part of being a flight nurse and that’s why the opportunity to contribute to this website has been a Godsend for me. In my group’s topics, I don’t just share how to “do” flight medicine, I share how I tried to “be” flight medicine to my fullest abilities.  I have learned a lot of lessons over the years and I’m thankful that I can share them with you.  I hope you enjoy my experiences.

“Dan’s experiences are full of knowledge and these CE’s are a must.  Patient’s lives depend on them and you!”—Jeremy Pogue, NRP.

“The approach and methods used here provide a simplistic approach to intimidating subjects.”—Brian Moore
