First responders typically work 24-hour shifts away from their families and their homes with 72 hours off afterward. They run on average 15 calls per shift and work to stop crime, protect people from fires, and save peopleĀ“s lives in their moment of need. However, first responders make on average $12.51 per hour in North Carolina which is %14 below the national average.
